oxio uses and permits others to use ‘cookies’ and tracking technologies such as pixels on our website and mobile app. These technologies are used to understand how you interact with our digital properties, support their functioning, and deliver relevant advertising.
Websites and mobile apps use a range of tracking technologies including cookies, software development kits (referred as SDKs), pixels and web beacons. Some place files on your browser, while others use signals to communicate between your browser and a website. To break it down more, here are additional descriptions of each category of tracking technology:
Cookies are small text files that a website saves on your browser when you visit a site. Each time you navigate to a webpage, the cookie communicates with the website to remember things like your log-in details or preferences. They are handy because they save you from having to re-enter the same information each time you visit a website. Some cookies are integral to the functioning of a website; without them, the site can't operate. Other cookies are optional. Some cookies expire when you close the browser (session cookies), while others remain on the browser for a set period (persistent cookies).
First-party cookies. These digital files are generated by the specific domain you visit. Their primary role is to enhance usability by managing active sessions, preserving selected language settings, or maintaining the contents of your digital cart as you navigate.
Third-party cookies. These technologies are deployed on your browser by external entities, such as ad networks, rather than the site operator. They function by tracking your activity across platforms to develop a comprehensive understanding of your online preferences and interests.
SDKs are blocks of code that are placed on browsers or mobile applications. Developers will install third party SDKs from companies like Google and Meta to allow them to easily add functions to a site or an app, as opposed to having to build them from scratch. They are used to track things like preferences, location, app usage, and clicks.
Pixels or web beacons are very small, transparent images (usually a single pixel in size), that are embedded on webpages, ads or emails. When you open a webpage, click on an ad or open an email, your device has to request that invisible image from a server. This request quietly alerts the sender that you viewed the content, what time you looked at it, and what kind of device you used.
Every device connected to the internet is assigned a unique string of numbers called an IP (Internet Protocol) address. It functions much like a digital return address for your internet connection. Whenever you visit a site, your device has to share its IP address so the website knows where to send the webpage data. Websites log this address to determine your general physical location (such as your country, city, or postal code) and to recognize if visits are coming from the same network over time.
| Category of Tracking Technology | Description |
| Essential | To support the functioning of a website, like to detect suspicious activity. These are strictly necessary for a website to function. |
| Functional | To save your preferences and remember your choices such as your username, what country you are in, and language. |
| Performance | To measure and track how users navigate webpages, which pages are visited most, etc. |
| Marketing | To provide targeted marketing and advertising. |
oxio decides which tracking technologies are allowed on our websites and mobile applications. Our service providers may use these technologies to support the functioning of their services, like our payment provider. We also permit a limited number of tracking technologies from advertising networks to enable targeted advertising and analytics platforms for behavior tracking.

We regularly review the use of tracking technologies on our website to make sure it remains up to date and relevant. Depending on the site, you may be able to set your browser to refuse or block cookies and tracking technologies. Alternatively, you can follow the third party’s opt-out options via their respective websites. Refusing or blocking certain cookies may impact the functioning of our website, like you may have to re-enter certain information each time you try to log in. Deleting some types of cookies may prevent certain functions from working at all, like the purchase process.
