What do we mean when we say your price is “fixed”?
It means we won’t increase your price from the one you signed up with as long as you stay with oxio. Seriously. Locked in and we threw away the key.
That’s it. That’s the article.
Still here?
Okay, we get it.
Canadians have had to deal with high internet prices and sneaky price hikes from internet providers for years. Might be hard to believe when a company says the price will never change.
But get this.
Imagine telling your grandkids in 2083 you pay the same price for internet as you did in 2024.
Loyalty should be rewarded. While market rates for home internet services can increase over time, your price will always stay the same.
With no term contracts, there aren’t any home internet plans with 2-year "promotional" terms, and you don't have to worry about an expiry date on your monthly price. Enjoy peace of mind with a price that'll actually remain the same.
There's something inherently wrong with Canadians needing to negotiate to get a better price.
Why do only those who wait 3 hours on a call and complain the most get rewarded with lower prices? Having to re-negotiate your price can be exhausting, time-consuming, and just downright unfair. With fixed and fair pricing, ditch the hold music and say adios to ever having to negotiate for a better price again.
We're here to create connections. And not just internet connections. Connections with and for Canadians that deserve better.
The average Canadian will spend $45,240 for home internet over a lifetime.
Assuming you're around the age of 25 paying the current average cost of internet ($65/mo)1 and live until the average age of death in Canada (82.6)2.
And that's assuming there's no price hikes.
With such a large amount of money at stake, a few things are best considered for a product or service of this magnitude.
The proof is in the past.
Historically, oxio has never raised the price of a customer’s plan from the one they signed up with.
*Mic drop.
Although our available speeds and plans may change from time to time, if you sign up with it, you get to keep it.
However…
You were waiting for this part, weren’t you? “I KNEW IT WAS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.”
When we’ve introduced higher speed tiers at the exact same price as the original plan a customer signed up with, we’ve upgraded their speed while keeping their price the same. Sorry, not sorry.
We had you there for a second, didn’t we? No sneaky terms and conditions here.
The truth about “2-year” deals.
Nowadays, some providers offer customers home internet deals that supposedly "stay the same" for 2 years at a time. Or, a "fixed price contract".
However…
And this time, there actually is a however.
Behind the curtain, what most of these are, is a 2-year discount.
What’s the difference?
Providers will apply an ongoing discount of $x to your monthly bill. This comes off the base price of their internet plan in your area.
For example:
> Customer gets a 1 Gbps download speed internet plan at $129.99 per month. Taxes extra.
> Provider tells customer they get a 2-year deal and applies a monthly discount of $70.
> Customer’s monthly bill is now only $59.99.
BUT…
> After a few months, customer notices their monthly bill is suddenly $64.99.
> Customer calls their provider (after waiting in a queue for 30min) only to find out the base price for that speed has gone up from $129.99 to $134.99. The discount still applies, but there's a raise to the base price - which typically occurs at least twice a year.
Not cool.
Not to mention that ads for goods or services offered by other providers also have some interesting fine print.
- "Prices may increase during subscription."
- "No long-term commitment."
So there's no guarantee a customer's monthly bill will actually stay the same, and there is some kind of commitment involved. AKA early cancellation fees. Pssst. Our cancellation fees? $0.
Two types of customers.
Now, after those 24 months pass and the promo period is up, customers tend to fall into one of two categories.
Customer A - The Passive-ist:
This type of person tends to…
- Forget or not care about their monthly bill.
- Accept their fate that their new price is the "norm".
- Dread going through the same song and dance with their provider to get a new deal.
Typically, they'll end up being content paying the full plan price of $134.99.
Unfortunately, this happens more often than we think and is exactly what some other internet providers want/expect.
Customer B - The Savings Seeker:
This type of person will contact the provider once their deal is up and try to get a new one. Their home will need to be in an area where there’s competition, and because the base price has gone up over their two years, there’s a chance the new deal ends up being a bit more per month than the last one.
No new deal? Well, you'll most likely find them typing in "cheap internet providers near me" to make a switch.
Or, there is another option.
The oxio customer:
The best of both worlds - In our humble opinion!
- Never has to contact their provider for a new deal.
- Never has to worry about a deal expiring or any sneaky price hikes.
They get to keep the same price for as long as they stay with oxio. Period.
